Why speed matters
Slow pages lose visitors and sales. Google uses page experience signals, including Core Web Vitals, in ranking.
The three metrics
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) — how quickly the main content appears. Aim under 2.5 seconds.
- Interaction to Next Paint (INP) — how quickly the page responds to taps and clicks. Aim under 200 milliseconds.
- Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) — how much things jump around while loading. Aim under 0.1.
Common fixes
- Compress and resize images; use modern formats.
- Reduce heavy third-party scripts and chat widgets.
- Reserve space for images and adverts.
- Use a fast host and a content delivery network.
- Load critical content first.
